Clam trying to lick salt off of a table

Most of us haven’t spent much time around live clams, let alone seen one move. In fact, lots of people assume that these mollusks are completely motionless. This video shows what appears to be a clam trying to lick salt off of a table with its giant tongue. In reality, that “tongue” is actually a foot – which, interestingly, comprises most of a clam’s body. According to one marine biologist, this clam is likely using its foot in an attempt to dig itself back into the sediment where it normally lives. In essence, it’s responding to what it perceives is unfamiliar territory
